Dentures

A denture can be a removable or fixed dental prosthetic device that is used to replace lost teeth. Dentures are a fantastic way to enhance your smile, give a proper shape to your face, and to improve your speech, chewing and digestion. At the office of Glenwood Dental Care, we make custom dentures that look and feel like natural teeth.

Dentures can be either complete or partial, based on how many teeth you are missing. Partial dentures are used when some natural teeth are lost, while complete dentures are used for replacing a full set of teeth in a dental arch. A “Conventional” complete denture is made once all of the natural teeth have been extracted from the mouth and the gum tissue has healed. This takes a few weeks of time, during which a person may have to be without teeth. On the other hand, immediate dentures are prepared in advance and can be placed immediately after removing a patient’s teeth. Once the gum tissues heal, adjustments are made to the denture so that it fits well.

It may take a bit of time for you to adjust to your new dentures. You may feel some soreness, difficulty speaking and chewing, and increased flow of saliva during the adjustment period; however, this will subside as your muscles and tissues get used to the new dentures.

Fixed Dentures

If you are always scared about your dentures slipping away or loosening, you may want to consider fixed dentures which are supported by a small number of surgically installed dental implants. These fixed dentures make use of a Snap-On mechanism and can be easily snapped into attachments placed over the implants and can be easily removed for cleaning and while sleeping.

The expert team and Glenwood Dental Care will help you determine the best option for your specific situation. To learn more, make an appointment today by calling our office at 630-545-1116.
